Lydia on H is a maddening paradox. On one end, the food is absolutely incredible and I can't wait to have more of it. On the other hand, it is also equally disorganized and chaotic.

Everything we had to eat was delicious: both the jerk chicken and braised lamb flat breads, the jerk wings, fried shrimp and cabbage rolls, salmon and shrimp rasta pasta, the oxtail with curry cabbage and joloff rice, and the curry chicken. All stupendous afro-caribbean dishes.

But making a reservation, dismal. Their online Resy didn't show any availability past today. When I called them they said to try back which I did several times. I finally called and spoke with someone who said they were the chef and took down our reservation. I called back a couple days before and they had no reservation and took it down again. And guess what? When we showed up there was no reservation for the 6 of us. They crammed some small tables together and seated us. Our server was friendly and did her best but the coursing was a mess. Food either took forever so we got really hungry or came out quickly so we didn't have room on the table,

In spite of this, I give it 4 stars because of the food but y'all can do better than this!

The food was absolutely AMAZING. I brought my mother who doesn’t come out often and she absolutely loved the ambiance and the whole vibe at Lydia’s. Cassandra was our waitress and bartender, she was very attentive and welcoming. This is my favorite place to eat and catch a vibe on H st. 10/10 I recommend!

We always ask for a printout of the final receipt. To make sure we aren't overcharged for anything. When we ask for a printout, she said she couldn't. I assumed the implication was that she couldn't because she was using the handheld machine.

today when I went for brunch, I paid in cash with $200 (2 $100 bills). The waitress never gave me my change. Even though everyone at the table paid their portion with their card. I was the only person that paid cash
. Lady never gave me back.My $40+ change 🤬😡 20% gratuity is already included

Great atmosphere, food, and impeccable service! The Speakeasy is definitely one of my favorites in the city. Order the "Make you wanna slap Ya mama" and you won't be disappointed!

The patio area theme changes by the season and never misses.

I discovered Lydia’s through a TikTok search for hookah, and my friend and I decided to check it out for their brunch. We made a reservation for 3 PM, and the spot definitely met the vibe check. The downstairs area was quaint and accommodating, and the DJ did not miss!

We ordered hookah, drinks, and food to start. The hookah was on point and the staff was friendly, providing us with various menu recommendations. We settled on wings and a side of mac and cheese. The wings arrived after a bit of a wait and were delicious, but unfortunately, the mac and cheese never came.

Initially, our waitress said they were baking a new batch, which would take about 30 minutes. An hour later, still no mac and cheese. When we inquired again, she brought out a portion of the old batch, but it looked overdone and dry. We opted to wait for the fresh batch, which never arrived. I even ordered more wings, and those never came either.

In the end, they did offer us a free order of fries, which was appreciated, but it was disappointing to see other patrons also experiencing delays with their food. Despite the hiccups, the atmosphere was great, and I’d be willing to give it another try, hoping for a smoother experience next time.

I went for New Year's Eve into the new year. The place is immaculate. Food was good. (I ate at the bar) Drinks were ok. I didn't try any signature drinks. Some things could be a little better but I rather not say. I will be visiting again soon.

The resturant is pretty. It’s a vibe lol. I only ordered a few appetizers and drinks but they were both good. One is mac and cheese and I forgot what the other one was called. I would come back to try more food.
