Outstanding rich display of Connecticut history . Hands down the best I've ever seen . To much to list but I encourage you to pay a visit. You won't be disappointed! Located in the State library across from the State Capitol bldg . See the many photos I've shown . There's a restroom in the museum and it's free ! M-F 10 to 2 Enjoy !

Small, but I learned a lot. The gun collection was awesome, and now I know why CT is the constitution state! I know that CT hid its state charter in the charter oak when England wanted it back because CT was gonna be part of New England, and that if it wasn’t for the revolution, CT would have been annexed by New York.

This was a cute little addition to the Capitol. Unlike other Capitols which typically have the gubernatorial portraits inside the Capitol, this one has it at this museum on the opposite side of the Capitol. It would probably take 10-20 min to visit this place.

A small but very interesting collection. We went specifically to see the Colt collection, but historic Connecticut industries are also covered, along with the historic charter, and govenor portrait collection. Security was friendly and had a system for holding and returning pocket knives, etc, that were left in pockets - you will be screened. Street parking wasn't bad but requires a small fee.

Fascinating exhibits, which is focused on Connecticut’s government, military and industrial history, trace the growth of our state and its role in the development of the nation. The collections include portraits of 72 Governors of Connecticut, American coins from as early as the 17th-century and Colt firearms.

Interestingly, the 231 Capitol Avenue residence, which is located across the Connecticut State Capitol, is made up of Connecticut Supreme Court, State Library, and Museum of Connecticut History.

It just sucks cuz they make history sound like everything was found and discovered by colonial people. What happened to the Native American they took the land from. These museum need to say the complete truth about history. But besides that I give it 5 stars cuz is educational at the end of the day and kids will love it.

This is a wonderful hidden gem. I would never know this was a museum. If I did not check on Google. It is the supreme court building. It is always pretty empty, so it's easy to navigate and enjoy. The courtroom is gorgeous, and the museum room is filled with amazing Connecticut history. This last time that I went, I got a chance to visit the library and that is a whole new experience ! There are so many levels of books and one of the workers was so friendly and informative. Overall, it's a very nice place to go kid free. Although my little kids did great, they did get a bit antsy and wanted to walk around while I wanted to read some more. I of course had to be next to them since this is not a place for children to run around. But overall this place is awesome and will definitely take family members to check it out.
