This was the first overnight camp my kids went to and they enjoyed the activities but weren't fans of the slumming (aka showers, sleeping outdoors, bugs, but that was also part of the experience and reason for sending them there). Food was fine though picky eaters like my younger subsisted on chicken tenders and french fries/tater tots.

We love Camp Speers. We've went for two years during their family & friends weekend. The facilities are well kept and lots of activities for the whole family to enjoy. A great reason to "unplug"! We'll definitely be back.

My 10 yr old had an absolutely amazing time last summer as a first year overnight camper. He came back so much more confident and self assured. I received regular updates via daily photos and as a first time camper, a check in call with the director. Facilities, activities, and counselors are top notch. This year, he’ll be headed back for a 2 week session and we’re excited for Camp Speers to be part of his childhood.

My daughter has been attending Camp Speers for many years. As a child in day camp and for the last 5 years she has attended sleepaway camp. Always a wonderful experience with caring counselors and friends she has made from near and far. I would highly recommend.

My daughters and their friends have loved coming to Camp Speers for years and years. We are loyal to them, and have recommended them countless times to friends, colleagues, and peers. My daughter looks forward to attending every single summer! Beautiful, safe, kind, compassionate, and magical is how I describe Camp Speers.

My child has been attending Camp Speers for about four years now, and each year, she gets even more excited to return. She cherishes the friendships she has built over the years and loves being exposed to a variety of activities. I also appreciate that she gets a break from technology, allowing her to truly enjoy outdoor experiences and personal growth.

Although this Camp has potential to be great it is not great. There were a few things that occurred here but I do not have much room to write. I will address the most recent. My child attended the Day camp program and only lasted 3 days. A counselor screamed and was very aggressive towards my 6 year old daughter. My child was in tears and telling me she wanted to leave. I couldn’t get any answers or resolve from anyone and took my daughter out of the camp the same day. Based on what I’ve seen at the camp , at one point it probably was really good maybe years ago. Staff are very young and do not receive training on Child Development The amount of money charged for this camp is not consistent with what is offered. Quality does not exist here, I am bothered that this is a YMCA camp but are not consistent with YMCA values. If you want to feel uneasy and worry about your child then of course this camp is for you. I strongly recommend looking elsewhere the negative reviews are honest reviews. Believe me

I was part of a large camper here recently, and overall it was a mixed bag. The grounds are spacious, and most of the cabins and amenities are clean and adequate. The kids enjoyed the activities for the most part, which included ziplining, a petting zoo, archery and canoeing. The fireplace equipped pavilion is a good size and provides protection for a large number of people from the elements.

Despite this, the negative parts of Camp Spears outweighed the positive in my opinion. The food served at the cafeteria was mostly atrocious. Given the cost for these 3 meals per day, there was hardly any value. Half cooked tater tots, mystery patties, over salted broccoli and paper thin "bacon" were part of the menu at times, and options at each meal were usually limited to three choices and a salad bar. The limited hot meal choices aren't ideal for campers with 100+ participants. The food quality brings down this rating significantly for me.

Less annoying than the crummy food were the "pony" rides that Camp Spears offered. These weren't ponies - they were good size horses - yet any children over the age of 9 weren't allow to ride them. Anyone 12 or younger should have been allowed to ride. The cooking class, where the kids made pancakes, was underwhelming as well.

The good news is the negative aspects of this camp are fixable if the Camp Spears leadership truly cares. If the food quality improves, more stars to this rating would be warranted.
