Ahora llegamos hasta donde se encuentran las instalaciones del parque de Universal Studios, que junto con Disneyland son el gran atractivo turístico de California, el país que más visita este estado, es México con al rededor de 6 millones de turistas cada año.

Pero gran parte de ellos ignora que frente a Universal Studios esta el sitio que seria la antesala al tratado de Guadalupe Hidalgo con el que los mexicanos se quedarían sin la mitad de su territorio.

En este sitio se firmó el tratado de Cahuenga, el cual fue redactado por José Antonio Carrillo y firmado por John Fremont, representante de las fuerzas estadounidenses y por parte de las mexicanas fue Andrés Pico, días antes había sido la batalla de San Gabriel y la de La Mesa y con este tratado se pone fin a la guerra solamente en Alta California con el objetivo de no destruir Los Ángeles y proteger a sus habitantes.

En el interior del museo veras una recopilación de documentos sobre este suceso histórico, uno de los más importantes en la historia de Estados Unidos, aun se puede apreciar unas campanas que pertenecían a El Camino Real y aunque ya no están puestas donde solían estar, en las calles hay letreros con marcas de campana para recordarlas.

Después de que los estadounidenses tomaran Los Ángeles, se fueron por Las Vegas en Nevada y Santa Fe en Nuevo México y de ahí por Monterrey, después Veracruz y Puebla, para finalmente llegar a Ciudad de México donde se libraría la batalla de Churubusco.

My buddy brought me here bc he's a history buff, especially when it comes to Californias history. It blew my mind to find out that this is literally where the treaty was signed with Mexico that gave the US all of this land. Better yet stolen by the US like it has everything else. So much history and sadness could be felt here, and what's bizarre is that people passed by it like it was nothing. Knowing that so much and so many lives would be affected by this simple little historic site was something else. You can see the original tiles and masonry that were laid out to build this adobe structure, and it's even laid out into the street. It is truly an amazing experience, especially when your friend tells the dramatic story of it all.

A very awesome place to visit knowing that this is the exact spot where the treaty of guadalupe hidalgo was signed what later formed the American south west but most importantly the birth of California as we know it today this place is a must visit for any historical enthusiast including for the common minded who is simply interested in knowing more about the history of California but most importantly the Mexican-American History that is sewn into our fabric of time

Thank you Daisy and Paula for the welcoming ! I felt humbled walking in this place knowing it is precisely where The Treaty of Cahuenga was signed between Colonel John C. Frémont and General Andrés Pico in 1847, settling the future of our beautiful California so close to the gigantic Universal ! 😊

This place is right next to the Universal City train station and few minutes walk from the Universal Studio. It's a historic place and a landmark. You'll learn about the early settlers of California here. They are only open twice a month.

This is the location where the Mexican forces under Gov. Pico surrendered to Lt Col. John C. Fremont during the Mexican American War in 1847. This Is was not where the formal peace treaty between Mexico and the U.S.A. took place but rather where an informal agreement was made between the opposing forces fighting in what was then Alto California. The 'Treaty of Cahuenga' also known as the 'Capitulation of Cahuenga' freed all prisoners of war and allowed those that swore an oath to not take up arms to return home or remove to Mexico unhindered. The later formal peace treaty between Mexico and the U.S., known as the treaty of Guadeloupe Hildago, ended the war, recognized the Rio Grande as the border between Texas and Mexico, and ceded California, Colorado and parts of Arizona and New Mexico to the U.S. for $15 million while granting full citizenship and civil rights to all Mexicans wishing to remain in the newly acquired U.S. territories. The remaining parts of Arizona and New Mexico were later purchased in 1853 as part of the Gadsen Purchase. Gov. Pico remained in California became an American citizen and later served in the State Assembly representing Los Angeles. The original footprint of the Campo De Cahuenga can be seen as a landmark in the form of a brickwork design installed partially across Lankershim Blvd and located across the street from Universal Studios Hollywood.
