I went through some of the reviews for this hospital and it’s not good. My son in law came to the emergency room for abdominal pain. He was seen and placed in a room fairly quickly. He was put on morphine for pain and was trying to rest put the nurses kept coming in and out talking extremely loud. I know they have a job to do and or probably understaffed. The lay out of this hospital is difficult to navigate so pack your patients.

I had surgery here, and I was supposed to stay over, which was confirmed again before going into surgery and on my chart. Instead, the nurses kicked me out within 30 minutes of waking up. I tried to tell them I was staying, but one was busy dressing me and giving me pain meds, while another literally took the sheets off the bed while I was still sitting there trying to finish waking up. They made me feel like they had a party they were missing out on and only cared about going there instead of taking care of their patient. My husband questioned them sending me home so soon, but he also was never allowed to be with me when he was supposed to be before and after surgery. They just told him to get the car, and I was ready to go home. I was kicked out and had non-stop scary issues for 48 hours after I had left. I finally landed back in the ER with serious complications from the surgery, which they would have caught up on if I had actually stayed overnight. I had to have blood transfusions and by the time my surgeon was able to come visit me in the hospital, she told me she was shocked to see I had gone home, but didn't question anyone as to why I wasn't there. All she did was email the head nurse and let them know they were wrong.

Those that I dealt with in the ER were friendly. I was in very bad shape, but they took good care of me. It was the nurses that I blame after my surgery. My recovery took months longer than it should have and caused me major medical trauma. I tried to complain to the hospital after I was doing a bit better, but I never heard from anyone. I reached out to my insurance because I was told they would also reach out to the hospital, but still not a word from anyone at the hospital. I would never recommend anyone go to Moses Cone. Due to the traumatic experience that I did have, the whole hospital gets 1 star. I'd give zero if I could, but I guess the 1 star is for the ER staff. This experience was about 1.5 years ago, and I finally felt brave enough to write a review and not have a panic attack while writing it. Honestly, I was waiting to see if the hospital would respond to my complaint, which they didn't. They should have known about it from my surgeon and maybe the ER staff, I don't know how that works, but they failed to even respond to them screwing up so badly. I was in bad shape by the time the ambulance brought me to the ER and could have lost my life if I didn't go with my gut that something was very wrong.

Don't comment saying to contact you now, like you have to the other negative comments. It's been 17 months, and obviously, you had time to speak to me before now.

I had surgery to remove a misplaced/imbedded IUD there and was pleased with my experience overall. The doctors, nurses, and staff were all nice, friendly, and professional. The nurses in particular were very comforting to me before and after the procedure.

The only reason that I am giving 4 stars instead of 5 is because I do think entrance A was a bit annoying to deal with while arriving and departing due to limited space for vehicles in the drop off/pickup area (no big deal though). I will say that the facility itself is pretty nice and access from the parking garage to entrance A was good.

On 9/17/24, because Kindred Care LTAC had ignored Mom’s DDNR she was transported via squad to Moses Cone Hospital's ED for an emergency chest tube procedure.
Dr. Davis called to advise me that x-rays showed her left lung had been crushed during CPR at Kindred. Dr. Davis also advised that she'd been without oxygen for over 30 min. and a chest tube procedure was very painful. He gave me the option of conducting the procedure or make her comfortable and let her pass peacefully. We chose to make her comfortable to let her peacefully pass. It is tragic that Mom DDNR was not followed!
From VA, we drove over five hrs. nonstop thru the night in pouring rain, to be with our Mother during her last moments. Arriving at approx. 5:30AM at the ED, we informed the receptionist who we were and that we were there to visit with our mother. She made a phone call, then asked us to be seated. For approx. 30 min., we waited with no further word from anyone. Anxious, and knowing time was critical, we asked the receptionist again if we could visit our mom and were told, no. Approx. 15 min later, we were led to a small room in a hallway where we waited again over an hr. Our hearts were sinking! A nurse finally arrived to speak with us. We told her we didn’t understand why we’d not been allowed to be with Mom. She told us she was sorry for our loss. We were shocked; NO ONE had contacted us to tell us Mom had passed. Feeling a wave of emotions, we asked “What do you mean, are you saying Mom’s dead? The dr. knew we were on our way here to be with her. Without comment, she left the room. She returned with two other women, a dr. and a Chaplin. The dr. told us she’d relieved Dr. Davis at shift change and she was not permitted by policy, to provide us any further details about our mother because she was not Mom’s attending physcian. She would not even tell us what time she’d passed! She told us she was sorry for our loss. We asked to see mom and she and the nurse informed us that they were not permitted to do so per hospital policy. Her only attempt in resolve was to apologize for the breakdown in communication. Again, we asked where our mother was. They said she’d been moved to the morgue. We asked to see our mom. The dr. told us no, per policy only staff were permitted in the morgue. We asked them to move her to an area so we could be with her for a few moments. Without hesitation, the dr. informed us this too was against policy.
Mom’s time of death was 1:20 AM, we’d arrived at the ED at approximately 5:30 AM, believing she was still alive. No one bothered to communicate anything with us. She was treated as if she was homeless and without family who loved and cared about her well-being and need to be with her for a few moments, even if she had passed and even if she was unable to hear our words, “We love you Mom, we’re sorry this has happened, your wishes weren’t followed; we’re sorry we didn’t make it here in time to say goodbye. We love you”
The Chaplin agreed, this was wrong, advised she was going to speak with administration about what had occurred and ask if they’d grant us the opportunity to be with our mother for a few moments. She returned approx. 20 min. later informing us our request was denied. She said that she planned to speak with other administrators later in the day along with bringing our experience up in a staff meeting and advised she’d be in touch.
It’s been over 6 months since Mom passed. We’ve heard from no one except the Chaplain who called approx. one month after Mom’s passing. She said she’d not forgotten about our situation and she did address our concerns and experience in a meeting with administrators and that is all she that she was able to share with me.
After all this, it took a physician nearly a week to sign Mom's death certificate, unnecessarily delaying her funeral services.
