I recently had emergency surgery at the Lewistown Geisinger Hospital.
I must say I could not have ask for better care from the ER ,Surgery Dept.,Lab & 6 floors nurse and staff.
I spend two nights, over the weekend and everyone went over and above in my care.
Health Care Worker do not get the credit they deserve.
Thank you all for making my stay a good one.

The emergency room is absolutely a joke. I waited for 3 hrs in the waiting room for them to do nothing but take blood and put me back in the waiting room. I watched the waiting room nurse take multiple people to rooms before me that showed up way after I did. I literally sat for 3 hrs and suffered, in excruciating pain, and so did a few others, as people were coming in after us and yet being taken care of first. Disgrace of a place anymore. 2 years ago you never sat in the waiting room for more then 30 mins max

They helped me immediately and they were a God send in helping me with my medical emergency. I’m from NY and this hospital is by far the best I’ve been too. Thankful for the doctors, specialists, techs and nurses who helped me.

5 stars for the Abigail Gift Boutique and the cafeteria inside the hospital!

The gift shop is small but makes up for it by being very well organized and clean. Lots of fun and useful items.

The cafeteria is large, very clean, and had lots of items to choose from.

Both places had wonderful, friendly staff!

A family member was seen at the ER and had a co-pay. Not a problem. Was then told his visit may not be completely covered by insurance. I asked if there was any kind of coverage the hospital had that he could apply for help. We filled out the paperwork and handed it in. When it asked for income, I didn’t notice where it said anything about entire household. None! I talked with an employee at Geisinger employee in the billing department. Apologetic, but problem not resolved. The other person living in the household has nothing to do with the billing of my family members insurance. They’re not married. We received a letter from Geisinger stating that now they need his income from previous and his income now. His income previously has nothing to do with his income now. It’s a new year. What it boils down to is they don’t want to help low income elderly people who. They don’t care that they can’t afford to pay it. As long as they get their money is all they care about. Bottom line!! RIDICULOUS!!

Surgery waiting room not very comfortable. Like all geisinger waiting rooms, televisions are broadcasting things you really don't want to watch. Bring Surgery patients right out through the waiting room for everyone to look at and of course to comment on...disgusting.

Honestly I have only ever heard bad things about this hospital. BUT, this was NOT my experience at all. My wife was having contractions early in her pregnancy and we had to go to the nearest hospital. We use UPMC for this pregnancy but Jenna at Labor and Delivery was amazing. She was caring, personable, and intelligent. She asked for our names and used them throughout the evening. She was encouraging and her Nursing Assistant Emma was also very nice as well. I may not be able to speak for other aspects of this hospital, but I do highly recommend using the Labor and Delivery here and asking for Jenna.

My family experienced the traumatic loss of my father at this hospital a couple months ago... unfortunately, the experience was made even more stressful because of some of the nursing staff. We were originally told by my dad's care team that he was being placed into a "hospice type" room and that since he could pass at any given moment, the normal hospital visiting hours wouldn't apply to us, and that there would be a waiting room we could use across the hall from my dad for as long as we needed to. However, once my dad was actually put into the "hospice type" room, everything changed. We were suddenly being told by nurses that the hospital doesn't actually have a hospice floor and that my family was "taking up too much room in the waiting areas" and "leaving trash around the hospital" which was absolutely NOT true. Some of the nurses even questioned my mom's decisions about my dad's care, insinuating that her decisions were "unethical". One nurse even had the audacity to tell my mom, "You know your husband's dying, right" We were also blamed for "allowing children to stay overnight in the waiting area", which was another bold faced lie. We purposely did not allow any children to stay overnight at the hospital because we felt it was too traumatic for them to witness everything their grandfather (my dad) was going through. Any handy dandy security camera in the hospital could easily prove that no children spent the night in the waiting areas.

I wanted to give myself time before writing this review, to make sure I wasn't overreacting and just looking for reasons to be upset with the hospital. But it's been a couple months since my dad's passing now, and I still feel like my mother (and the rest of us) should not have been treated the way SOME of the staff chose to treat us.

I really wanted to trust this hospital, and maybe they do excel in other areas, but please please PLEASE consider a different location for in-patient hospice care if you can. Watching a loved one die is hard enough on a family. They shouldn't also have to deal with rude and unwelcoming staff on the floor their loved one is currently dying on. It's truly no wonder some people choose to pass away at home, where they can do it peacefully.
