The visitor center is under renovation, but the history of this 18th century port town is explained well through the knowledgeable staff, printed materials, and self-guided exhibits in the preserved historic structures.
Focused tours are offered at various times and at a reasonable cost.
Take at least one tour….Linger….Walk the interpretive path to the river! Plan to spend at least half a day here.
Even if you’re not so much into history, you’ll appreciate walking around the peaceful historic area and adjacent town.
We plan to return in 2026 for the 250th anniversary celebration!

Our family enjoyed this little museum. We arrived too late to go into the other buildings, but can go back later. Even just driving around to see them was neat.

The Underground Railroad trail was open and thoughtful. It's only a 1/4 mile walk, but you can also drive down there. There's a bench overlooking the river.

There's a house right next to the sitting area, though, so that was a little weird.

I enjoy visiting when the buildings are open and there are people dressed up acting the part of townspeople. There is plenty of walking but if you can't walk well you can get to most of it in a car.

Such a beautiful place. My son and his wife got married here and photos were taken in different areas. The crepe myrtle were in bloom which added to the beauty. Such an amazing day. So happy we have such beautiful pictures to remember this happy day we welcomed Adrianna into our Family. There is so much history in this place. You can visit museum and even set up a tour. I hope if you're in the area you will visit this quaint little town. They have little shops filled with antiques and flea market finds. Beautiful neighborhood as well.

Incredible history of our nation here in Halifax North Carolina. North Carolina became the first State to take official action towards independence from Great Britain. The Halifax Resolve was a name given to the resolution adopted by North Carolina on April 12, 1776. It was here that 83 delegates of the Fourth Provincial Congress laid the groundwork for the signing of the Declaration of Independence less than three months later. The State flag of North Carolina has the date of April 12, 1776 on it because of the Halifax Resolve. The visitor center is incredible and the ladythere gave usa tremendous amount of information about Halifax and the Halifax Resolve. The various buildings in the area are beautiful restored and gives you the feeling of being there. This place is on the National Register of Historic Places.

This is a town with a very rich history. I would recommend spending at least a whole day here to see all the historic buildings in the town.
