This was a nice little find today. It's a small refuge and there's not a lot of animals but the people are very kind and they care very much for the animals they have. They give all the wildlife plenty of room in their enclosures. We were lucky to have a guided tour of the place and our tour guide, Ryan, did a great job. He apologized for the construction with the upgrades going on but we were thrilled they were still open and doing upgrades for the animals. Make sure to donate and help them out!

We were happy to see this place fully re-opened after limiting hours for some repairs. This crew did an amazing job of rebuilding the walkways and adding some habitats. Great to see animals so well cared for.

Hidden behind the Cracker Museum and the campground. Rescued animals. New boardwalk. No pets.

I love the wildlife refuge! The workers are so kind and don't mind answering questions! If you ask ahead of time they will gladly give you a tour also! They care so much about the animals like they're all their friends! There's so many native Florida animals to see, as well as a few exotics! No lions, tigers, monkeys,or zebras though as many people have the misconception that they do! They do on the hand have a prairie dog, 2 kinkajous, 2 giant sulcata tortoises, 2 emus (one is white), 2 prehinsile porcupines, and for native species they have 3 foxes, 2 bobcats, 2 Florida panther cougars, an albino skunk, 3 raccoons (one is a dwarf, he's worth coming to see for sure, he's adorable), an otter, a Florida black bear, a great horned owl, 3 tiny screech owls, 2 giant Florida alligators (one with only 3 legs), and deers (a young buck and 3 does)! It is my favorite place to visit in Hardee County! You have to stop if you're visiting or just live here! It's amazing and so much fun to see!
