My son took me there for my birthday. The man that worked there hovered over me, constantly telling me how wrong I was doing every move. My visit was short and plan to never waste time dealing with that kind of abuse. Talk about sucking all the fun from enjoying the moment.. not trying to strike GOLD!

This was a wonderful family get together, my 86 year old grandmother even got to participate and enjoy.

The caretaker is a genuinely enjoyable fellow with good humor YEARS of experience and is willing to be totally honest about the teaching and training.

Great tour. We are so grateful for our guide taking the time to show us this! Very affordable as well $3 per person for your and $5 per gem bucket $7 for the gold bucket ! The gem mining was great but the gold mining was awesome! We learned so cool tips and hope we strike it rich soon!

We came to McCormick to follow the quilt block tour and ended up at the mine on accident while we were looking for a Geo-cache. It was a very happy accident that we showed up early enough to take the tour and learn to pan for gold.
I highly recommend taking the time to do the tour. There is so much local history to learn about that we plan another visit. We learned about the geology of the area and about the ups and downs of the prominent families of McCormick. After the tour we opted to try our hands a panning. We had a blast, found gold and made friends. Our guide was patient and spent as much time with us until we understood what we were doing. Always checking back to give us tips for panning. We has so much fun and learned so much that we chatted about it for our 2 hour ride home. We will definitely go back and my husband and I cant wait to get out with the knowledge we now have to try panning near our house.

Good place for older kids or kids with some patiences. If they can listen to and follow simple directions, gem screening is the best option. Gold panning requires more instruction, more patiences and using proper techniques to be successful. Bring cash as they don't accept debt or credit cards. Our family had a great time and will be back!
