Beautiful Library! Very clean. Love that youre met with the histoey of the building soon as you walk up the steps. And they have a video of its history that plays all day. They also have a barrel piano that plays, upon request ? the other floors have tons of record keeping and books.

Nice little history Musuem with all the old tools and equipment used in the founding of San Luis Obispo. Friendly staff and free admission. Encouraging young children to be inventors and designers or artists. Good to visit when you are in town.

This place was highly informative. Very educational and entertaining. I was thoroughly impressed with the history of San Luis Obispo and especially enjoyed hearing the local history of the internment camps that help Japanese Americans. A video was playing in the media room but I was enthralled with all.of the pictures and displays they had. For filling out a brief survey I received a free postcard of my choosing. Plan to visit again with the family

If you're limited on time and it's the weekend, prioritize a visit to the History Center-operated Dallidet Adobe and Gardens, where you'll get a better sense of early SLO history.

The SLO History Center is located in the beautifully maintained Carnegie Library. Unfortunately the museum has few exhibits or artifacts on display relating the city's history but just a few small temporary shows about segments of the population. Truly it's a missed opportunity!

Another better choice for learning about SLO's history is the SLO Railroad Museum, open only on Saturday.

Small but informative little museum. They have photos, artifacts, books, and more during the old days of the town. It's a nice quick stop if you have time.

Update: I was quietly and respectfully reading when the man who sits at the front desk rudely and sarcastically asked me to leave. I thought he was a museum helper or curator of some sort but by his behavior, it seemed like he just wanted the whole place to himself. White guy, short hair, kinda fat, glasses, sassy attitude, I think he was wearing a plaid long sleeved shirt. I won't be returning.

Lots of interesting stuff can be learned here about the settlers of the area. There's a bookstore. Not super welcoming vibe
