Our guided tour of the mansion was with a knowledgeable docent and eight participants. A larger group would have been too much. The history of the house and family is intertwined with Indiana state history and provides an enjoyable time-travel experience. While the visit was very much worthwhile, like other similar visits I have made, the longing to see the house and grounds in peak condition leaves a slight residual disappointment. Nevertheless, the house, furnishings, and grounds are in good condition and story they tell is fascinating.

This is a beautiful museum home built and owned by James Lanier and his family until the early 1900s. The tour we went on was fun and went around the entire home, nothing was roped off. Our tour guide was apparently more on the administration side of the historical society so it made the notes they gave, from my perspective, more interesting. They focused more on the history of the family and how they impacted the town of Madison, the state of Indiana, and different industries they were involved in; the history of Irish servants, and other historical topics and how they relate to the house. overall it was a nice tour and it was nice to support the preservation of a local landmark.

We took advantage of their Presidents Day free tour on a great sunny day. The guide was very knowledgeable and willing to share extra information to questions. This is a 3 story Mansion and you are not required to follow the upstairs if it isn't comfortable.

I do not recommend anyone with a walking disability to attempt the tour. It is not a wheelchair access tour. Not recommended for small children or mentally challenged as real antiques are throughout the house.

Very nice tour and a must see for anyone visiting the area.

I've explored the exterior of the property for decades, but this was my visit time touring the inside. It was a fun experience. Our guide, Derek, only enhanced our afternoon! Definitely worth checking out when visiting town (not a big time investment).

This was a great tour! Our guide did a great job! We went on Sunday. It said open 10-5pm. Then it had specific tour times. We went across the street to the historical society to get tickets for the next tour. It took about 45 min. Great stories and Information.

I have toured a lot of historic homes and this tour was fantastic. Nothing roped off, no rooms skipped over, photography welcomed. Jared was an amazing guide! He kept it interesting and definitely knew the home, the people associated with it, as well as the history of Madison in general. Senior discount over age 60.
