A great little museum in the heart of Miami Springs, Florida USA. They have a great collection of Glenn Curtiss, Miami Springs, Hialeah, Opa Locka, Airline and Miami International Airport memorabilia, collectibles, artifacts and ephemera. The admission is FREE. It's open every Saturday from 12:00PM Noon until 4:00PM. Stop by and get a tour of the museum and see the exhibits and displays. A relaxing and informative afternoon for the whole family and your friends too !
The museum is located at 501 EAST DRIVE in MIAMI SPRINGS just north of Miami International Airport.

Entering the Miami Springs Historical Society felt like stepping through a portal to another time. Nestled in the heart of the bustling Miami Springs, this hidden gem of a museum exuded charm with its vintage photographs, artifacts, and the promise of uncovering the city's rich past.

Our visit was guided by a passionate historian whose storytelling transported us back to Miami Springs' early days as a meticulously planned community in the 1920s. We learned about its evolution and pivotal role during World War II, each exhibit and artifact telling a unique story of resilience and progress.

One particularly captivating display showcased artifacts from the city's aviation history, including memorabilia from Amelia Earhart's visit to the local airfield. Standing amidst these relics, we felt a deep connection to the pioneers and visionaries who shaped Miami Springs into the vibrant community it is today.

After the insightful tour, we explored archival documents and old newspapers, piecing together the narrative of this remarkable place. The warmth and hospitality of the staff added to the charm of the experience, making us feel like welcomed guests rather than mere visitors.

Leaving the historical society, we carried with us not just memories but a newfound appreciation for Miami Springs' rich heritage. The Miami Springs Historical Society doesn't just preserve history; it brings it to life, ensuring that its legacy continues to inspire future generations.

Nice place to visit. Lots of history on the airlines like Eastern-Pan Am based in Miami Springs. History of Miami Springs since 1926. Worth thr trip.

During our visit to the Miami Springs Historical Society, we learned about Miami Springs and its founder, for which the major thoroughfare is named:

Glenn Hammond Curtiss. He began his career as a bicycle racer and builder before moving on to motorcycles.

As early as 1904, he began to manufacture engines for airships.

In 1908, Curtiss joined the Aerial Experiment Association, a pioneering research group, founded by Alexander Graham Bell at Beinn Bhreagh, Nova Scotia, to build flying machines.

Curtiss made the first officially witnessed flight in North America, won a race at the world's first international air meet in France, and made the first long-distance flight in the United States.

His contributions in designing and building aircraft led to the formation of the Curtiss Aeroplane and Motor Company, now part of Curtiss-Wright Corporation. His company built aircraft for the U.S. Army and Navy, and, during the years leading up to World War I, his experiments with seaplanes led to advances in naval aviation.

Curtiss civil and military aircraft were predominant in the interwar and World War II eras.
