A visit to The Old School House is a fun Christmas outing for the family. The four main rooms in the first floor of the building are decorated based on theme: Christmas Trees, Historic Lutz and Nativity scenes, Lego and K’Nex, and traditional Toy Train scenes. Our favorite was the scavenger hunt through the highly imaginative Lego display. We spent a crazy amount of time solving the riddles. Very well done!!

Outside the building, staff offer hot chocolate and cookies, and sometimes there is special, music as well. Donations are always welcome and this year, we noticed they had some merchandise for sale.

Wonderful experience during Christmas holidays with beautiful decorated trees, hundreds of nutcrackers and fabulous train sets. There's even a huge Lego town and train. Great for all ages and hot chocolate and yummy cookies. Free but donations accepted.

Fascinating place to visit. Such a jewel to learn not just about local history but also about life at that time period. They have taken great care to collect an amazing amount of antiques & items for their displays and have set up an authentic classroom. Usually, people who actually attended school there decades ago will act as your tour guide. Check their FB for posts talking about when they have an open house or special lectures. It is well worth taking the time on a Sat for a tour.

I go here for the civil air patrol meetings on Tuesdays. Even for a building that has 'Old' in the name, it doesn't give the feeling of an old building. Really well-kept, clean, and neat. The squadron here is very friendly as well, staff, cadets, everyone! I came home from my second meeting under an hour ago, so I'll be getting sworn in at the next meeting. The fact I already have so much to say about this place is amazing, and I've only been here twice! Will definitely be returning for the CAP and possibly more.

Edit: I (nearly 2 years later) am a C/SrA at the squadron! All of this is still true. I'll be moving this summer so I'll be very sad to say goodbye to my fellow cadets. I'll always remember and love them 🙂

A wonderful historic site, with so many dedicated volunteers who work extremely hard to not only maintain the property, but also invite the community in to be a part of it. These folks truly embrace the history of this building and its meaning in the town of Lutz and I am proud that a place like this still exists to visit. Come at Christmas!

I was one of the last students out of the old Lutz school building. I remember that day well. The fourth graders were on the bottom and the fifth on the top floors. The fifth graders moved out first, the loud stomping down the stairs as they were led out. They were taken to the new 5th grade pod that just opened up. Then we were lined up and lead out. And, with that, the building was officially closed. As we say, the rest is history.
