This was our 4th stay here over the past 10 years. Lovely, well-appointed historic home adjacent to a picturesque square with live oaks. The bluebird room is bright, quiet, very comfortable bed, several chairs and loveseat, with sufficient lighting for reading, and luggage racks available. Also a good sized closet area for bags and hanging clothes. All the rooms are quite large, fine for multiple nights. Bluebird bathroom is on the small side but has shelving for toiletries. Zach met us on arrival and served a fantastic and beautifully presented breakfast. Next time hope to spend longer to visit nearby Sapelo and other islands. For a small town, Darien has a surprising number of restaurants as well as a great wine shop with sizable wine bar in the back overlooking the river, where you get a local vibe.

This is by far the best B&B we have stayed at. Beautiful historic area home with super comfortable beds and the nicest innkeepers (Zach & Carrie) you'll ever meet. Located in walking distance to the quaint downtown area of Darien which has a really nice wine bar where all of the locals go and know each other (you are likely to run into Zach & Carrie there). It is also just a short drive to a number of the Georgia coastal islands and also close to Savannah.

Open Gates is the epitome of a Bed and Breakfast. The vintage home is comfortable and charming, with a large sitting room, library, dining room and front porch with rocking chairs. Our room was spacious and comfortable. Zach and Carrie are gracious hosts and breakfast was superb! It's a wonderful place to stopover for a night or stay a while.

Probably the best B&B we have ever stayed in, and we have stayed in lots! Darien is a charming town full of character. Open Gates is a wonderful place in a beautiful setting. Every room has been meticulously styled, apparently that is down to Carrie, who clearly has an excellent eye. We had the Island Room, with a delightfully comfortable four poster bed. And the communal rooms are a luxurious joy. Zach was a perfect host, even producing tea to proper English standards, with freshly boiled water - unobtainable elsewhere in the States! He produced a delicious and pleasingly presented breakfast especially for us in the morning. We hope to return and would definitely encourage anyone else to visit - spoil yourself!

For a slower pace in comfort we highly recommend enjoying Zack and Carrie Mae’s hospitality. A beautiful property in historic Darien. Park the car for the weekend and walk the town from this convenient location. Local food, shopping, art is within a ten minute walk from the elegant manor on a quiet church park square. Darien itself is convenient to other attractions on the coast. Prepare to be amazed by an impressive culinary breakfast in the dining room along with leisurely conversation with other guests. Our room over the old carriage house was quiet, the bed was expansive with comfortable crisp sheets and fluffy comforter. An excellent weekend to share as a couple.

Open Gates B&B is a charming place in a sweet little town! Zack was a wonderful host, and he prepared a delightful breakfast for us. Everything about the house and our room was perfect! We especially loved sitting in the cozy library on a chilly evening, reading books and drinking tea. We hope to stay there again soon.

My husband, Fred and I found the most wonderful B&B. The Open Gates in Darien more than exceeded our expectations! From the warm welcome we received to the most excellent breakfast presentation at our departure! One reason for our visit to Darien was to visit the Sugar Marsh Cottage which to our surprise was just across the street! Oh, those chocolates! We also took in the Waterfront Wine shop, the Nautical Treasures….all so delightful! We hit the happy hour at the Oaks Cedar Bar (which we highly recommend) and finished our day with dinner at Skippers on the River! ||Thank you Zack for your generous hospitality! Had a wonderful stay at this beautiful B&B. I came up to getaway for the weekend and Zack and Carrie were so kind and helpful. Zack made some amazing meals for breakfast! The bed and breakfast has everything you need, is very clean, and so homey. Also, all the shops and restaurants are within walking distance, which was a wonderful treat. Would recommend this place to anyone visiting. Will be back.
