As a certified Hone inspector and Real Estate investor , I have personally inspected over 200 homes this year alone. Throughout my career, I’ve encountered a wide range of construction quality—some exceptional, some lacking. However, today, I experienced something truly unique.
This home was so incredibly well-built that I struggled to find anything of concern. Even after a meticulous and deliberate inspection, I could only identify two minor issues—both so insignificant that they hardly warranted mention. In fact, I almost felt guilty accepting payment for my work because there was simply nothing to critique!
If I were in the market for a newly built home, I would, without hesitation, choose QHOC Homes. Their craftsmanship is unmatched, and in all my years of professional experience, I have never encountered a home so exceptionally well-constructed and meticulously crafted. So, this is an update to my initial review. When I wrote my first 1-star review, I had been given a run around from the warranty company.

Within 2 days of the initial review QHOC owner and the Warranty Coordinator reached out to speak with me. I also heard from the owner of ProHomes the warranty company. QHOC and ProHomes did express their sincere apologies for the issues I have been having and that they were unaware of the difficulties I was having with the agent managing my claims.

On the phone with QHOC it was agreed that I would deal with them directly on any claim I needed addressed. I also made the statement I would update my review once all work had been satisfactorily completed. The owner of QHOC indicated that he was not worried about the review, that it was a learning experience for him and his team, and they were more interested in correcting the issues with my home.

I did notice that QHOC did respond to my initial review last week, they did indicate in that response that they had addressed everything on my list. This is false, about 4 days prior to their post I had submitted and emailed to the Warranty Coordinator for some rework on my interior doors. Also, about 4 hours before their post, I submitted another email asking about some rework on my exterior doors. I am not sure if there were some internal communication issues, but I do feel I need to point this out. The issues I initially reported are still in the process of being corrected.I was keeping to my word, that I would update my review once work has been completed satisfactorily.

I received an email today piggybacking on another message about rescheduling the work on my exterior doors, I was ask “If you have been satisfied with the repairs and workmanship from QHOC would you kindly revise or take down the review?” I still had outstanding issues. SO now I feel my hand is being pushed to update this. I guess our previous conversation about me updating once everything has been resolved, and the statement of not really worrying about the review that they just wanted to make things right is not being adhered too.

Here is a quick review:

Exterior: 4/5
Interior: 3/5
Mechanical (HVAC, Electrical): 4/5
Fit and Finish: 2/5
Warranty : 3/5

Thoughts for new buyer:
The biggest thing I would say is pay attention to everything, ask questions about anything and get a good home inspector. Even on a new build and inspector will catch things that you might not see. The cost of having an inspector look at things is small compared to the large investment you are about to make. Your agent should be able to make a recommendation for one. It’s also good to have someone else in your corner checking things. You will also have more leverage if you catch these issues before closing on your home.

Thoughts for builder:
The homes you’re building are your product. It’s not always best to go with the cheapest options. It makes your product feel and look cheap. Things a homeowner will touch daily like doors and switch plates could go a long way in showing a little quality in a home. Do the little extras that make you stand out from the rest.

Final thoughts:
I know this review sounds negative, but please understand I do like my home, and I do plan on being here for many years. I couldn’t be more excited to have a new home in this day and age. I really can’t wait to start making improvements around here for the better and having something custom for me.

Do I think QHOC is a bad builder, no I do not. I think they are like most builders in the area. I think they do need to pay attention to details and maybe not go with the cheapest products.

My wife and I recently used Quality Homes of Currituck to build our custom home in Moyock and we couldn't be happier with the end result! Everyone we worked with from start to finish was responsive, professional, and welcoming! We were always able to get quick and thorough answers to all of our questions and the staff accommodated our requests for changes.

I contacted Justin and he quickly got the process started and got me in touch with the right people. The design process was quick and painless. They took our ideas (and budget) into consideration when designing our home.

After we approved the design we worked with QHOC staff to pick out the finishes (countertops, cabinets, tile, flooring, etc.). We met with Richard at one of the QHOC model homes which allowed us to not only see samples of the product firsthand, but also allowed us to see some of the products and colors in a larger scale throughout the model home. For any items not found in the model home (ie. our siding color), he was able to point us to other homes with the product so we could see it full scale. Richard was so helpful and patient with us as he described (sometimes more than once) the difference between the various finishes that QHOC offered for our home.

The staff was very efficient at pulling permits and getting the build started. It felt like almost immediately after finalizing the design and the finishes that they had started to break ground on our home. We drove by daily and were pleased to see the progress being made! As the build progressed we made changes and tweaks to our original design, but Leigh and Holly were always very accommodating to these requests! Bucky met with us several times during the build to walk through the home and go over any changes or address any concerns we had.

A couple days before closing we conducted a walkthrough with Derrick to ensure that everything was perfect before closing (ie. conduct touch up painting, adjust doors, etc.). Derrick took thorough notes and the morning of closing when we conducted our final walkthrough and everything had been adjusted as we asked with the exception of a minor cabinet door issue. However, Derrick worked with the cabinet company and an appointment was made that fit our schedule and the cabinet door was quickly replaced.

We appreciate the time and effort that QHOC staff put into our home and are very happy with our final product!
