Ruble Castle is a hidden gem in Glendora. It’s definitely worth supporting to see the crazy castle and get a tour experiencing the wild and artistic mindset of a man who loves to build. Very interesting story and wild and eclectic homestead in Glendora!

Waste of time!
Would be great to see anywhere that the caste is open by appointment.
It was not nice to turn in, drive off the driveway for 20 min and learn it is open by appointment.
A few great shots anyways but not worth it from outside.

This is AMAZING!! Have to make reservations, but the story of the place, the structures all incredible. Our tour guide, as part of the family, had wonderful stories to tell and so many interesting details!

Entertaining docent lead tour was a good way to spend a Sunday morning. May your reservation request via email, they get back to you pretty quickly.
It’s $20 per person at the door…cash only so hit the ATM before you get there to avoid any issues.
Parking is in the street. Not a problem.
The tour was almost 2 hours long. Lots to see and you get a little insight into an eccentric mind.
It’s not a place you will return to once a year but certainly should do once.

Today was my first time here at the castle and it was truly a great experience. Our docent Hanz did a fantastic job showing us around the property and teaching us all about the life and accomplishments of Rubel, who he knew personally before his passing in 2007. Rubel was able to get the land where the former Glendora reservoir existed and shortly after that he began building his castle. It was a collaboration between himself, his friends, friends of friends, and even the neighbors. Everyone collectively worked on the property and he also shared it with everyone who worked there. He was a school bus driver for the Azusa school district so he would bring stones in the bus from the Azusa riverbed all the way back to his castle for the actual building materials. Dotted throughout the walls are countless bottles, statues, and all sorts of other items mixed in.

Everywhere you look there really is something new and unique to see and I’m sure it would take many times walking through to see everything. Parking is extremely easy and plentiful as it’s in a quiet residential neighborhood. It is definitely a bit quirky and odd, but at the heart of the property is the story of Rubel and after listening to his philosophies on life and work it’s easy to envision why he was a beloved member of the community and still draws visitors to his own personal castle.

Such an amazing place to explore and discover. Thank you to the Rubel family, family friends and the Glendora Historical Society for working together to keep the property accessible to the public through guided tours. I know it takes time, money and a lot of effort by many to make this possible and I am forever grateful. I highly recommend a tour. Mike Rubel’s story is highly relatable and inspiring for younger and older entrepreneurs alike. Take your kids. This place will ignite their imaginations. Cheers!

Cool makeshift castle in Glendora! Fun stories from the tour guide who grew up and is related to the owner. Interesting things to look at and find.
