Simsbury Historical Society was founded in 1911. They moved to the current 2-acre location which has a home, tavern, and barn on it; this property belonged to the Phelps family. A school house, another home, and probate building were brought to this location later on. They offer tours, special events, and workshops. They're open from Thursday to Saturday from 12-4.

My family and I enjoyed walking through the property and seeing the old buildings and artifacts. There was a replica of a native American wig-wam which was really cool to walk inside of. I love history and old buildings so it was fun seeing the old school house and historic single homes. The tavern had a beautiful garden in the backyard. There were plenty of parking and we look forward to going back and taking a tour.

We visited during the Make-A-Scarecrow on 9-24-2022. A fun atmosphere for the kids. One critique: If you are hosting an event, have a porta-potty on site for the day.

Make a visit if you can. Lovely local historical society, very friendly and informative staff. Town and area were settled in the 1600s so there is definitely some history here! Nice to see they also do trips here for the local schools

Although I have frequented this location, each time is better than the last. The programs are really in-depth and accurate and the employees seem to always continue to study the deep, as well as the current issues and facts.

It wasn't open when we visited and we still give it 3 stars. We especially loved the authentic wigwam. Its nice to see a town in Ct. that honors native American Indians. Will definitely return when its open!

Cool little historical visit. All the buildings were closed during my visit but it's worth a 10 min stop if you are driving by.
