The Long Beach / San Pedro area is a great destination for ship lovers with the Queen Mary and Battleship Iowa attracting huge crowds. There is also a third treasure that shouldn’t be missed in the SS Lane Victory. A somewhat less glamorous workhorse who served her country through three wars, SS Lane Victory offers an uncrowded and more exclusive experience for anyone interested in maritime history.

She’s tended by a very dedicated and knowledgeable volunteer staff who will welcome you on board and help answer questions (thanks Gordon!).

Allow an hour, or more if you’re a “reader” who would like to fully explore the museum located in the cargo hold. Highly recommended.

Awesome piece of maritime history right here in Los Angeles. This vessel served in 3 wars and proudl shows its history on board. WWII buffs need to check his out. Easy parking, great location, lots of food options nearby. Bring the family, great learning experience without travelling to San Diego.

The SS Lane Victory is a historic cargo ship that served during World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. Today, it is preserved as a museum ship in San Pedro, located in the Port of Los Angeles, California. Visitors can explore this National Historic Landmark and learn about its significant role in American history. Volunteers on site took tourists around the ship and gave detailed explanations with a sense of duty and pride.
It is said that the famous scene of the male and female protagonists on the bow of the movie was filmed on this ship.

SS 레인 빅토리호는 2차 대전과 한국 전쟁, 그리고 베트남전쟁 중 아주 중요한 역할을 한 역사적인 상선이다. 특히 한국전쟁 중에는 1.4 후퇴 흥남 철수작전에서 7천명이 넘는 피난민을 안전한 부산으로 데려다 준 한국 역사상 아주 고마운 존재이다. 상주해 있는 자원봉사자들이 관광객들에게 친절한 설명과 함께 배의 곳곳을 데리고 다녀서 무척 고마웠다.
영화 <타이타닉>에서 뱃머리에서의 남녀주인공의 유명한 장면을 이 배에서 촬영했다고 한다.

Gordon gave us a world class tour. Showed up at 10, no issues parking in their free lot on location. Walked up the platform. Good price for entrance. Was doing a self guided tour when Gordon approached us and another who showed up right at opening and we got a guided tour for free. Gave donation to the museum, great cause and even better people. Learned a lot!! Gordon even accommodated my slight claustrophobia during the tour. Very kind. Engine room was a blast to see. Thank you Gordon!

Hello everyone. Check out the S.S Lane Victory for this is another historic ship filled with so much history since its construction. This legacy ship, contains many historic news papers, model ships, uniforms, torpedoes, helmets, flags...ect. When on board, ask the museum tour guides as many questions as you can about its history but how it also makes current history across many industries such as the entertainment industry. I've had the pleasure or being to film recently in sections of the ship that are closed off to the public and the pleasure of listening to the restoration team talk about the roles they play in maintaining the ship and there history as well. Ciekawe porównanie warunków bytowych marynarzy - czyli pracowników i wojskowej obsługi uzbrojenia.

Jeśli widziałeś już USS Massatchusets czy USS New Jersey, to odpuść sobie USS Iowa i przejedż lepiej tu.

This was my first visited history ship - museum in USA. And I'm glad I did right choice. Gordon, he is guide that all other museums should be jealous. He speaks about the ship with so huge passion, exitement. Intially we were planing to stay hour, but with him more than 2 hours went like an instant. To see deepest spaces of ship it was extraordinary experience. Highly reccomend visit this in first place of any other ship museum in California!
