Torrington is lucky to have such a great history museum! Informative and engaging exhibits. Definitely see how beautifully the Hotchkiss-Fyler house is decked for the holidays, too. And they are keeping alive the memory and legacy of John Brown, too!

We had a six hour layover here between Amtrak trains. We had access to the Metropolitan Lounge. They provided free soft drinks and numerous snacks. A very neat and clean place away from the noise and station crowds. If you get the opportunity and have excess amount of time, there is no better place to wait. The attendant at the front entrance was exceptionally informative and pleasant.

Visited here to research a family name. We were met by Gail, the archivist, who was extremely helpful. Gail provided interesting archive information about the family. She stayed with us the whole time and provided helpful information. She also gave us a tour of the historical house and the next door museum. The 1900 built house has been almost fully restored to its original condition and also has virtually all its original furnishings. The woodwork was amazing and very interesting. A truly impressive place with an equally impressive guide - Gail. For those interested in Connecticut history, this is a great starting point.

Well done historical museum of the Torrington area. Beautiful buildings dating to the turn of the century with a small garden area and close to the center.

This is as fine a museum as you are going to find anywhere in CT, or possibly in New England. Take a guided tour of the Fyler house if you can schedule it. It is restored to the full beauty it once had when the upper classes lived along Main Street. Also, see the museum of Torrington history next door. It presents a timeline from pre-historic to modern industrial history of the area. Many artifacts and exhibits are presented. A visit here is well worth your time.

Such an interesting place to visit for all ages, especially if you like history. The hours are limited, typically 12pm-4pm, but make sure to visit their website before heading over to verify their hours of operation. And they aren't open year-round because it's probably a big expense to heat the museums during the winter. They're typically closed from November to April, but they do decorate for Christmas and are open briefly for the holiday to visitors, but once again, make sure to visit their website for updated events and schedule because things do change. And last, but not least, the staff that we met their were very friendly and knowledgeable.

Awesome place for the family. The first floor was amazing. It was really cool to see the home pretty much as it was left in the mid 1950's. Beautiful ceilings and floors and an amazing glass and teapot collection from the 18th and 19th century.
