I took my 87 year old father to the ER because of his increased confusion and fluid retention. He was registered quickly and blood was drawn rather quickly. However, we continued to sit in the lobby area for another 3.5 hours without ever seeing a doctor. Others that seemed to have flu like symptoms or COVID could have been taken care of much quicker as well. (A doctor’s office can do that, why can’t you?) Then you could move on to more serious patients. For heaven’s sake, there was a man in the lobby that had gotten there before us, with part of his intestine protruding through a hernia and he wasn’t even put in a room.

I have no doubt that you were busy, by the flood of EMS trucks coming in, but at least you could have informed those waiting in the lobby that staff were tied up, and that waiting time was expected to take longer than normal, so that patients could make a decision to stay or go some where else for services. NO EXCUSE FOR POOR COMMUNICATION OR NO COMMUNICATION.

Long story short, we left the ER without being seen, as well as the poor gentleman with the protruding intestine. I only hope he got the needed care before it became dire. DO BETTER UNC HEALTH!!!!

I spent my new year and first week of the year with these wonderful people. I left with a whole bunch of new prescriptions and my blood pressure not at heart failure level. My sugar is now being managed. I have disliked hospitals all my life. I was never made uncomfortable and everyone was so caring and supportive. Thankful for the ICU staff I can't say enough.

I dislike leaving bad reviews but I feel it is necessary because I took my husband into this ER today as he was short of breath and having some issues that needed attention. We waited two hours in a waiting room with 3 people in it initially. Two walked out after having to wait so long. And finally we decided to leave. I've never been to such a horrible ER . If I could give zero stars I would. As far as UNC is concerned, I have yet to have a good experience at any of its facilities. I can see Mission Hospital in our future. We ended up going to Mission Hospital in Marion. They triaged him, the doctor came right in, lab work done, X-rays done, out the door with him being seen, diagnosed, treated and feeling better. Go to Mission Hospital. Better care all the way around. They don't just check you in to leave you sitting for long periods of time forgotten in the waiting room. Get your shit together, UNC.

My experience with the hospital portion and the services provided were really great. They treated me well and helped fix my issues. The problem is with the ER , the service and care I received were not good at all. No exam rooms available, most of my treatment was done in the waiting area. I went in with a kidney stone and spent hours in agony waiting to be seen. Even though I never got to a room I was still charged the full amount of an ER visit. Not what I expected. Overall the hospital functions well the ER not so much.

Absolutely disgusting attitudes from the nurses. Took my significant other there to the ER, and they decided to do an ultrasound on his leg to see if he had blood clots. he was in so much pain .I understand the pain pill thing, and so did he, but they wouldn't give him anything that did any significant help to his pain . during the ultrasound, he said he was in a lot of pain and asked for her to stop .she didn't right away and kept going for a bit till he just could take it .his lips turned blue, and his hands curled up and turned blue as well. his oxygen was low .he couldn't even hardly talk and when I could make out to what he was saying he just kept asking me " what did they do to me " only one nurse jumped on it and gave him oxygen. the rest took their time, and when he finally was somewhat okay, they just kept on with questions without giving him a minute to processed what just happened. I heard one nurse comment, "Don't be so dramatic." he was cussing and upset, but nothing was threatened, and the nurses brought in officers as if he was dangerous or something . I asked if they had got enough info from the ultrasound they were giving, and I was told no, but they came in an hour later and said everything was fine and sent him home .everything was fine at the beginningbut after that, they just wanted him out . He apologize for cussing and the nurse said "we just dont take no crap" i understand but at the same time you need to act professional he was scared and I was to ....I'd asked for a iv bag because he was dehydrated from being in pain and not eating or drinking at the beginningnot it was never received...I do not recommend taking loved ones here . Definitely record your interaction like I did .

I had a CT scan, so I had a long wait to digest a calky drink for an hour. They have really improved the chalky drink by changing the taste to more vanilla flavor. There is a nice waiting room with a TV and very comfortable seating. The staff is always very pleasant and helpful. The hospital is always nice and clean.

So far have spent 8hrs in the Ed and still haven't been seen. People that came in hours after us have been seen and sent home. It has now been 10 hours and still no Dr. We are here because my daughter has a possible kidney infection. No meds no Dr and less than empathetic staff. All told we were there for 11 hours. At hour 10 1\2 my daughter was finally given pain meds. Never saw a room and the doctor talked to us in triage. I did call that number as it was left in another review and it's been 5 days with no response.

Absolutely terrible. Once I got into a room and I met the nurse, she was very inappropriate and unprofessional. This nurses name was Caylon Johnson. She would do anything but her job as a nurse, very rude too. I asked for some medicine to help sleep better and she didn't even come back with the medicine. Cannot believe you guys would hire a nurse like this. Get berter nurses, UNC.
