Before I write my review I want the first thing that potential new customers to read is - There is no need to take your dog into another room for a lot of the stuff that vetco does . Like an ear cleaning or anal exam . Going to the vet is stressful enough for some animals and this has never been my experience at more private vets like Farmingville and Sayville . They do most everything with you and your dog unless it’s imaging or more serious . So keep in mind that there are better options when it comes to a less stress free experience for you and your pup.
I recently moved so I needed to find a new local Vet and a friend recommended Trying Vetco because other local vets had a waiting period to be seen in my area . I first went to the Vetco in riverhead for one issue with my dog . I had no complaints there besides it being a very time consuming process and them taking my dog in the back multiple times which I wasn’t a fan of because my former more private vet (which I highly reccomend Sayville animal hospital they are so good) used to do everything right in front of me unless it was x-rays. If I’m being charged an arm and a leg, I wanna make sure I am seeing it being done . I’m not sure why my dog had to be taken to another private room for an anal exam. Who knows if they actually did it . To me , This isn’t normal and shows lack of confidence, knowledge and handling in front of owner .
But they DID do an overall exam listening to her heart and lungs, checking her teeth and temperature which I feel is usually common when you being your animal. This was back in January and I was bringing her in for allergy related issue . Forward to March and my dog has an ear infection . I wanted to make sure I got her in to be seen on Monday and since it was a Sunday my Sayville vet was closed to call to book an appt . So wanting to secure an appt ASAP I booked one with vetco in patchogue . I figured I’d give them a try . The only thing this place has going for it is availability and appointments. If I’m paying $90 just for the initial visit, I expect a general exam like temperature , heart lungs and teeth to be checked as was done in the one in riverhead . Patchogue Did not check any of these things especially if my dog has an infection her temp should have been taken. The vet tech nurse girl was lovely very nice and honestly did more and I saw her more than the Doctor Who didn’t come in until the results of the ear swab test which she took. The dr only came in to explain what needed to be done with the medication they were giving . Then they scooped my dog up away from me to clean her ears and put meds in - in a back room where tons of other dogs were being ushered making this more stressful for my dog and I and putting my dog more at risk whatever goes in back there . I’m not sure why she had to be taken away to do this in another area. Now in comparison , I’ve brought my dog to Sayville animal Hospital for the same issue with her ear and that appointment costed me $230. At Sayville My dog never left the room we were in to begin with. Was thouroughly examined , diagnosed and treated all in one room . No ear swab test that was an extra fee had to be performed - the Dr knew what was up simply by looking . This appt for the same exact thing at vetco in patchogue costed 296 and was less then the care received . Very disappointing. Never again. I’m giving two stars and not one because my dog is feeling better and that makes me happier than one star. I think the people that are giving this clinic high-quality ratings. Don’t know what a really good Vet is like to compare .
