Wonderful little center/museum. We stopped in after walking on the preserve and really enjoyed our visit. They have an amazing little gift shop with items to look at. Their volunteers are knowledgeable and so kind. They have donation boxes for an archeology dig and for the center itself. Definitely worth the stop. They open at 9am

This museum is a great way to get your kids out and excited with interactive learning activities inside. This museum educates you on Native American history along with some of today's. Some of the preserved findings inside were discovered by a st pete archeologists. They have a lot of different artifacts to discover with your family. This museum also educates you on some of the animals in the surrounding areas. To top it off this place is a great place to come kayak and do some trailing with your family plus there's a really great looking point. 🙂 This place is HUGE with plenty to do! Highly recommend!

The photos/video are from the observation tower. I adore it here. I don't have photos of the trails, and plan on taking pictures, maybe even a short video next time we go. It's so beautiful here and definitely worth the visit.

A lush and educational preserved and protected 3700 acres called the WIPCNHC. This beautiful gem in Pinellas County is on the National Register of Historic Places. You can enjoy what is left of wild lands that have been preserved and we cannot get back if not protected. This is an archaeological gateway and historical library. It is rich with the area's wildlife, fauna and was owned by Dr. Weedon many years long ago. From environmental to cultural resources that are still there today to beautiful lands preserved for all time, this is a timeless and unique piece of our heritage. It is free to the public w/ hiking trails, classes, observational studies, kayaking, nature walks and summer camps!

A great Native American History center set within the 3,200 acres of Weedon Island Preserve. Native Americans lived on Weedon island 1,000 to 1,800 years ago. The exhibit center is nicely laid out to help visitors understand ancient and modern people and how the two shaped each other. The Native American sites in the preserve were excavated by a St Petersburg archaeological firm starting in 1992 and continued for several years. One notable find is a boat made from a hollowed-out log, that was discovered preserved in mud. A fascinating place to visit.

A must see when visiting the preserve! Great for kids. The staff is friendly and a bunch to see. Take a quick walk through the exhibits and ask at the desk for a free backpack rental that includes maps, binoculars, and other goodies.

The place is neat and worth seeing if you’ve got nothing else to do, but it gets hot quickly and a lot of it is just walking to spots where you hope to see something. I appreciate the info at the nature center and the fact they’ve worked to keep this park available for people to come and enjoy. I recommend watching the video in the nature center on the history of the land and the archeological finds.

We had read and seen information on several TV documentaries about the 40' saefaring canoe that had been discovered. Had to see it for ourselves. It was amazing! But what else was amazing was the cultural center. We ended up spending hours looking at all the installations and touring the grounds. The staff and volunteers were cordial and helpful. Take a picnic basket and enjoy the wildlife too.
