I have done domestic and foreign projects with Global Volunteers, Habitat for Humanity, and Fuller Housing Center. These all require volunteers to pay a fee that funds the project and your food, housing, etc. - in some cases over $2000 plus you pay for all your transportation. With Historicorps, you only pay you transportation. Meals are provided and most people camp. You learn how to preserve historic structures. I enjoyed two projects so far and have two more scheduled this summer. If you are not into hard work in basic living conditions, this may not be for you, but if you want to learn new preservation skills, meet interesting people with no project fees, try Historicorps.

A great organization for volunteers to be trained and facilitated in the practice of restoring historic buildings on public lands. Historicorps partners with various public agencies, such as the first service, BLM,etc. to keep public resources in good shape. Volunteer today at Historicorps.org

I've completed 11 projects with HistoriCorps over the last 4 years. I've had great experiences. The projects have been in beautiful locations, doing important work to save our nation's history. The staff have been great to work with, both the field staff and the office staff. The project supervisors are highly knowledgeable about preservation work, helpful and appreciative of the volunteers' contributions regardless of skill. The crew leaders have put together some great meals, generally in highly challenging conditions.

I have participated in two HistoriCorps projects and both were excellent experiences! One in VA and one in CO. First one was an early crew, some demo some masonry. Second was a later crew, Log structure, we worked on some log replacement, interior painting and wall framing, and roof work. I took my nephew (17) on that one and it was a great experience for him to try several different tasks and to meet people from around the country, which is one of the greatest rewards of these trips, people from all walks of life, city, country, different states coming together, working together sharing stories to rebuild. We need more of that. Also got a little history of each place, and became part of that history. A great opportunity all around.

I did the restoration work in Deschutes National Forest near Bend, Oregon. It was fantastic. Our group was a full group, everyone got along both during the day for the restoration work and camping in the evening. HistoriCorps reached out before the trip to make sure everything was okay on my end. During the trip we were fed 3 square meals a day that were delicious plus they had snacks on site for us. I loved learning the history of the cabins along with helping to improve their usability. Would definitely recommend checking out one of their projects, HistoriCorps does great work that is needed.

HistoriCorps offers the opportunity to help preserve a part of our American past. A great feeling of accomplishment is garnered from the worthwhile, yet challenging, projects such as the Swain Logging Cars.
The staff was extremely helpful and well-prepared. Information given prior to the assignment was well-given. The greatest feature, however, was meeting, getting to know, and working with the other volunteers.

Historicorp is absolutely the most fun you'll ever have with strangers lol a week later, you have friends for life. We'll work until we can hardly drag ourselves to the tent and then bounce out with excitement to do it again the next day! Come on, you'll LOVE it!!!

Poorly planned, poorly executed project, of four volunteers - all left after second day due to lack of work. Project was not scoped correctly, tools were wholly inadequate and not nearly enough materials brought to the job site
