My overall experience was okay.
- ER Providers/Staff: The staff and providers that helped me were very professional, nice and friendly.
- Some things the ER need to improve: triage, waiting time and communication with the patients. For example, If the patient was waiting for tests results, etc. they should communicate to the patient when they are taking longer than expected or longer than stated in the communication posters and TV's (blood tests 90 mins, CT Scans up to 3hrs approximately).
- Waiting areas: common areas had empty antibacterial dispensers and some bathrooms were dirty. I believe these things should be taken care of, especially because of viruses.

Absolutely horrible bedside manners. Staff does not know how to communicate with patients at all. No compassion. Their answer is, “leave if you want to” when asked why nobody is helping even after waiting over an hour with severe chest pain/breathing issues. Despite their check-in process stating that if you are having shortness of breath/difficulty breathing - you will be seen right away as it may be serious.

I recently had a bad kidney stone and the staff at Mary Washington Hospital made me feel like I was in the best hands. They took very good care of me and took all of my pain and anxiety seriously. A special thanks to RN Anthony, RN Victoria, Dr. Szlyk and the rest of my care team.

Overall low ratings is because it speaks for itself. I could write a book on this. But I will try to keep it some what short. 2 years and 7 months ago I had a motor vehicle accident. I had a ruptured bladder and had to wear a catheter for a total of 3 weeks. I was told I needed surgery due to fractures in my pelvis in 4 places. 2 places were just about completely broken all the way, the other two were cracks. I was told I "Must Have Surgery, There Is No Other Way To Fix This!" "Pins, Screws and bolts"! By a lead surgeon there at the time. I was told there don't do pelvis surgery here because they don't have that specialty here at the time. So I ended up getting transferred after a couple hours of being at Mary Washington Hospital Emergency Room. So I ended up getting transferred to Richmond VCU Hospital 🏥 where I was told they have specialty experts that can do this surgery successfully. Well I gotta tell you, after 14 days and a few x-rays later stay at Richmond VCU Hospital. I was told by doctors that surgery was not needed as I was slowly healing. Pelvis was repairing itself. I was also against surgery too. I was able to be discharged from the hospital after my stay at Richmond VCU Hospital to go home, once I was able to use crouches to go up a few steps as well as down. Just 1 hour of one home Physical Therapy session, with 6 different exercises to do. To do each day on my own. Because I was not allowed to use my left leg to place any pressure on it for 3 months or else my pelvis could shift out of place again. Then once 3 months came I got a 2nd session Physical Therapy like the first but one home session with 6 new exercises as follows. I was able to walk with my left leg without any device within 4 and a half months to 5 months. To build strength again. Fast foward to now. I lost 45 pounds due to not being able to be as mobile and active from my accident. Now I am in better shape than I ever been. Even more fit and muscular than ever and I can lift more weights, workout harder, run harder, faster and jump as good as when I was in high school doing different sports. As I was super active and very fit. I can almost guarantee if I had surgery I may have not been as successful as I am now. Nothing against surgery, but we know we have heard of complications or long term limitations. Also I have zero pain and no discomfort! My tip is you always get a second or third opinion on any type of surgery that might be or might not be needed period!

Do not go to this ER. They will do everything in their power to not treat you. The doctor told me he didn't want to be "liable" for me receive an MRI following loosing feeling in my knee and have acute shooting pains after an injury. Well, to be clear, he first lied to me and said his ER *could not* triage me to get an MRI. Only when a nurse let slip that Mary Washington imagining could do the MRI referral easily did the doctor backpeddle and say he did not to be "liable" for a referral to ER for me.

I had to drive myself to another ER that sent me to get an MRI and confirmed I had a blood clot in my knee that developed from the injury. I may need surgery.

The doctors in Mary Washington ER care about protecting insurance companies. They will not take care of you. If you have an acute injury go somewhere that will actually treat you, not look for excuses not to.

It's my second time visiting this facility. Please don't waste your time to come here. I have come to the ER for an emergency matter, but waited for three hours. Couples of other ERs around.

Dirty ER. I had to bring my brother in for asthma related emergency. There's no distancing in the ER and the triage/Super track rooms are NOT cleaned in-between patients. Blood on the fixtures and everything is dusty and looks like they don't bleach or clean anything. We just moved here and I'm already searching for other medical care. Don't come here.
