Mid-August 2024
KUDOs: An eclectic collection of insects of many sizes. Commendable focus along with the continued desire to share collection with the public. Home-video-type but interesting informational video.
CHALLENGEs: Display area cramped and confining. A great amount is squeezed into too small a space. More ventilation/air-conditioning would be appreciated. Off the main road but directions on Apple Maps are accurate.

Glad we went, would not return. Recommended for insect aficionados as well as general public.

The May Natural History Museum is super close to town and a very cool experience. Most of the species on display here are tropical, but there are some local species as well. Most of the specimens are around 100 years old and in great condition. It's hard to pick a favorite when there are thousands to look at, but some of the locusts had incredibly colorful wings! There were so many pretty beetles, butterflies, spiders, and other bugs. It's very cool to be able to see someone's personal collection from so long ago!

To every single person that has ever played with insects of all types, ones that look like they belong on this plant and some that don’t. This was the best collaboration I’ve ever had the pleasure of seeing. It’s definitely worth the drive to see something this big in one place. We hade a wonderful time and would love to see more people going to this work of art/museum.

I loved it here and there's just not enough time in the day to look at EVERYTHING. It's not good if you're not into bugs because that's all there is besides one fruit bat. The lady working there was so nice and I wish I had asked her name. This place blew us away. The amount of bugs was incredible. And I ended up taking a photo of EVERY case. It's mostly butterflies but there is wayyy more other bugs too. Absolutely worth it. It's kind of in the middle of nowhere almost but you should do it, you won't regret it.

A place for ALL NATURE LOVERS!! I visited here a couple of days ago and absolutely loved it! You could spend hours in the museum looking at all of the different specimens. The gift shop has some of the most unique pieces and items to buy. Herkimer, the largest beetle isn’t the only attraction here, the museum is a must see!
I love supporting family operated business, and this is one.
They have a campground as well, but I didn’t stay there. It looks like a nice place and there is cell service for those who need their phones.

I must say, this place & it’s history blew me away. Such an amazing collection of specimens. We had the honor of meeting the 3rd & 4th generations still running the show, and they are some of the most genuine, kind people. If you love nature or into insects/butterflies, there is no better place to visit in the area. You can see the dedication it must’ve taken to collect everything he did, and thank you to his family for continuing to share the collection. They also have an amazing gift shop with something for EVERYONE, including some very cute butterfly wing encapsulated jewelry, which I purchased multiple of. I can’t wait for the day I can come back. If I could give 1,000 stars I would!

Everyone should go here even if they don’t like bugs! So many different kinds of bugs I didn’t know existed! So many beetle variations. What is more amazing is that all these bugs were caught by 1 incredible man in the 1920s! I enjoyed learning about the history of the museum just as much as I did the bugs! I spent almost 3 hours here could have easily spent the day. The amount of bugs to look at was a bit overwhelming.
